Book Writting Ltd

Refunds & Returns Policy

Effective: 2026
Applies to: bookwritting.com and purchases made through your Book Writting account

This Refunds and Returns Policy (“Policy”) explains when Book Writting Ltd (“Book Writting”, “we”, “us”, “our”) will refund money, replace a digital file, or stop a future charge. It applies to ebooks, complimentary files, audio, podcasts, summaries, subscriptions, book promotions, adverts, the Author marketing toolkit, and paid author services sold on bookwritting.com.

Please read this Policy together with our Terms & Conditions. If you buy on behalf of a business, statutory consumer rights that apply only to individuals may not apply to you.

1. Digital products cannot be returned “as they were”

Book Writting is a digital store and publishing platform. We sell electronic files and access rights — not printed stock that can be posted back in the same condition.

Once an ebook, audio title, summary, template or other file is made available in your account (including Read, Download, stream or similar access), that item has been delivered. It cannot be returned unused, unopened, or “as supplied”, because a copy of the content has already been provided to you.

For that reason we do not operate a physical returns desk, prepaid returns labels, or a “send it back in the original packaging” process. Those rules belong to physical goods. They do not apply here.

2. What we sell

  • One-off ebook purchases — paid PDF (or other digital format) delivered to My books.
  • Complimentary / free ebooks — no purchase price; access after you sign in.
  • Subscriptions — recurring access to audio books, the Book Writting podcast, book summaries and, where included in your plan, marketing toolkit templates (Starter, Plus or Pro; monthly or yearly).
  • Catalogue placements — Featured, Promoted or Sponsored book promotions, and paid adverts.
  • Author and publishing services — writing, editing, design, audio production, publishing assistance and related professional work quoted from the Services page.

3. Ebooks and other one-off digital purchases

3.1 After delivery, the sale is complete

When you complete checkout, we grant access to the title in your account. That grant is delivery. We do not accept the file back, and we do not refund a completed, delivered ebook purchase merely because you changed your mind, bought the wrong title, disliked the writing, already own the book elsewhere, or no longer wish to read it.

If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, you agree that we may start supplying the digital content immediately. By using Read or Download (or otherwise opening the file), you acknowledge that you lose any statutory right to cancel that would otherwise apply to unused digital content.

3.2 When we will help

We will investigate and, where appropriate, replace the file or refund the purchase price if:

  • the file we delivered will not open, is corrupt, or is not the title you paid for, and we cannot provide a working replacement within a reasonable time;
  • you were charged more than once for the same order;
  • the charge was not authorised by the account holder (you must also notify your payment provider);
  • we failed to deliver access after a successful payment, and we cannot restore that access.

We may ask for your account email, order reference, device or browser details, and a short description of the fault. We may refuse a refund where our records show a successful download or a substantial portion of the work has been accessed, except where the file itself is defective.

3.3 Adult titles

Adult ebooks are sold only after you confirm you are 18 or older. Age, content preference or later regret is not a ground for return.

3.4 Free books

Free titles have no purchase price, so there is nothing to refund. If a free file will not open, contact us and we will check the file.

4. Subscriptions — cancellation before the next billing cycle

Audio books, podcasts, summaries and plan-included toolkit access are billed on a recurring cycle (monthly or yearly, according to the plan you chose).

4.1 How cancellation works

You may cancel a subscription at any time from Subscription in your account, or by writing to us with the email on the account.

A cancellation takes effect before the next billing cycle begins. Once cancellation has been activated:

  • you will not be charged for the following billing period;
  • you keep the access you have already paid for until the end of the current paid period;
  • the subscription then ends and does not renew.

4.2 No refund of the period already billed

Fees for the billing period that is already underway are not refunded, credited or given back in cash when you cancel part-way through that period. Cancellation stops the next charge; it does not unwind the charge that opened the current period.

We do not offer pro-rata refunds for unused days, unused listening minutes, or unused summary allowances, except where a law that cannot be excluded requires otherwise.

4.3 Failed or duplicate subscription charges

If we take a renewal payment after you had already activated cancellation in time for that cycle, or if we take the same renewal twice, we will refund the amount that should not have been taken, to the original payment method, once we have confirmed the dates.

4.4 Changing plan

Upgrades and downgrades follow the plan rules shown at checkout and in your account. A downgrade, like a cancellation, is applied from the next billing cycle unless we state otherwise at the time you change plan.

5. Book promotions, adverts and marketing tools

Featured, Promoted and Sponsored placements, paid adverts, and one-off marketing toolkit purchases are digital advertising and digital goods.

  • If you cancel before the placement or campaign has started, we will refund the unused fee or not take the charge, as applicable.
  • Once a placement or campaign has started to run, the fee for that run is not refundable, including if you later unpublish the book or pause promotion.
  • Templates and toolkit files, once unlocked in your account, follow the same “delivered digital goods” rule as ebooks (section 3).

6. Author services, quotes and custom work

Writing, ghostwriting, editing, proofreading, cover design, translation, audiobook production, publishing assistance and similar services are professional services, not off-the-shelf stock.

  • A quote is an invitation to contract, not a completed sale, until we accept it and payment terms are met.
  • Deposits and milestone payments become non-refundable once that stage of work has started, because time and creative labour cannot be returned “as they were”.
  • If we have not started a paid stage, we will refund that unused stage when you cancel in writing.
  • If we cannot deliver the agreed service for reasons on our side, we will refund the unused portion of fees paid for that service.
  • Change of mind, delay in sending a manuscript, or dissatisfaction with creative direction after approved briefs does not, by itself, create a right to a full refund of work already performed.

Any written service agreement or statement of work you sign with us prevails over this Policy where the two differ on that project.

7. How to request a refund or a replacement file

  1. Sign in and note the order or subscription reference, the title or service, the date, and the amount.
  2. Use our Contact page, or email hello@bookwritting.com, from the address on your account.
  3. Tell us whether you need a working file, a cancelled renewal, or a refund, and why (see sections 3–6).

We aim to acknowledge complete requests within five working days. Approved refunds are sent to the original payment method. Card issuers and banks control when the credit appears on your statement; that is often several working days after we release it.

We cannot send a refund to a different card, a third party, or cash, except where the original method is closed and your provider issues a residual credit in another form.

8. Chargebacks and payment disputes

If a charge looks wrong, contact us first so we can correct a duplicate or failed-delivery payment without interrupting your account. A chargeback raised while we are replacing a file or processing a valid refund may delay the outcome. We will share delivery and access records with the payment provider where we are required to do so.

9. Statutory rights

Nothing in this Policy limits rights that the law of England and Wales (or, if it applies, the law of your country of residence) says cannot be limited. That includes rights you may have if digital content is not of satisfactory quality, not as described, or not fit for purpose, under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Where those rights apply, our first remedy for a defective file is to repair or replace it. A refund is considered if repair or replacement is impossible or unsuccessful within a reasonable time.
